This article won’t be news to you if you follow my blog. I like how the fact that HitWise is spying on web traffic was completely overlooked by the NY Times, and only “discovered” by the Washington Post four months later.

I may be confused about how the Internet works, but mining for the following data seems like it shouldn’t be possible:

Saw the post on the Coase Theorem and the Gmail/GM scenario. On the assumption that someone looking for the Gmail site, upon arriving at GM, would continue on to the correct Gmail URL, we pulled U.S. data on visits leaving car manufacturer sites going to Gmail.

Unless of course, your ISP is spying on you.
