The Midwest (Top Five of the Moment)

by JS

Back to back 700 mile driving days are brutal, but I was able to cover that ground without incident on relatively uncrowded midwest highways as my course meandered north and furtively east from Austin to Ann Arbor at something approximating the speed limit.

Things I’ve learned along the way:

1. 1400 miles NE = 20 degrees F.

2. Even advertising for adult bookstores coopts biblical themes along these bible heavy highways (witness “The Lion’s Den”).

3. Among other things, My Dear Disco is pretty good driving music.

4. The best audio books for driving are seedy crime thrillers.

5. iPod + adapter turns any car into a spaceship.
